Mr Commettant
The board of the Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) has opted to retain the monetary policy rate (MPR) at 1.75 percent for the second quarter of 2025, in order for CBS to continue providing support to the domestic economy.
First deputy governor of CBS, Brian Commettant, made the statement during a press conference on the bank's monetary policy decision held yesterday morning at the bank's temporary office at Unity House. This decision was taken on Monday.
“The decision on monetary policy takes into account development in Seychelles economic and what is happening on global economic front,” he said.
After reviewing the performance of the first quarter of the year it showed that domestic economic activity was primarily driven by the tourism sector. However, the number of visitors recorded over this period was lower in comparison to the previous year. As at March 16, 2025, a total of 78,537 visitors disembarked in Seychelles, which was a decline of 3.5 percent when compared to the same period in 2024.
