The executive director of the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa(EISA), Baïdessou Soukolgue, together with EISA Madagascar country director, Valdiodio Ndiaye, last week paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Roger Mancienne, who was accompanied by the deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Gervais Henrie.

Speaker Mancienne, who began by extending a warm greeting to the two delegates, highlighting the importance of such a visit, discussed the work of the Assembly while also gaining insight into the work of EISA.

Explaining the reason for his visit, Mr Soukolgue stated that a key objective was to build rapport with various stakeholders, as their institute plans to expand its activities and explore further collaboration with countries in the Indian Ocean.

During the meeting, several topics were addressed, including the involvement of youth in politics, particularly in relation to voting. The deputy Speaker highlighted recent initiatives by the Electoral Commission of Seychelles, which has been working to bring voter registration closer to young people by facilitating the process in districts and even in schools through various initiatives.

There was also extensive comparison between Seychelles and other African countries in areas such as politics, parliamentary structures, and leadership. Mr Ndiaye particularly commended Seychelles for its achievements, especially as a nation with a strong presence of women in leadership roles.

The meeting concluded with the Hon. Speaker expressing his thanks to Mr Soukolgue and Mr Ndiaye for the opportunity to discuss their mission and wished them a fruitful working visit.
