LFPA workshop promotes healthier and more sustainable agriculture |25 March 2025

Sustainable farming and the consumption of locally-produced food was the focus of a workshop organised by the Local Food Producers Association (LFPA) on Thursday, March 20, at the University of Seychelles.
The ‘For a Local and Healthier Agriculture’ workshop, funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the GEF Small Grants Programme and the Ridge to Reef project, highlighted the importance of supporting local farmers – many of whom are increasingly adopting agricology practices, as well as the benefits of eating locally-produced foods.
LFPA President, Nelson Renaud, addressed the issue of food importation, noting its negative impact on local producers.
“Let’s eat local, let us encourage our local farmers. Importation is destroying us in a way and we have no means of controlling the hotels and wholesalers since we are a free market. But as a small country, we can put in place structures to encourage our local producers,” he stated.
