The Seychelles government is to receiveR14.4 million worth of medical suppliesfrom the United Arab Emirates government, thus boosting the country’s current medical provisions and equipment.

After receiving the first batch of medical supplies late last year, which consisted of 10 containers of personal protective equipment (PPE) valued at R2.2 million, the second batch of medical provisions arrived in Seychelles mid-February 2025 and it comprised four containers of hypodermic needles, syringes, and other medical instruments and supplies valued at R6 million.

Seychelles is expected to receive a third batch of medical supplies shortly, consisting of four containers inclusive of intensive care unit (ICU) ventilators, medical beds, and other instruments valued at R2 million and a container of medicines valued at R4.2 million.

Under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Alnahyan, the Sheikh Khalifa Foundation handed over the second batch of medical supplies to the Seychelles government in a small ceremony held at the Seychelles Hospital. Health Minister Peggy Vidot and Dr Danny Louange, chief executive of the Health Care Agency (HCA), were present during the hand-over ceremony along with other staff of the ministry.

Chargé d’affaires of the embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Seychelles, Ahmed Alneyadi, on behalf of the Sheikh Khalifa Foundation, pledged to donate 20 containers of medical supplies to the Seychelles government and is convinced that these donations will significantly boost Seychelles’ current medical supplies and equipment.

Mr Alneyadi said Seychelles has received and will continue to receive generous contributions of medical supplies from the Sheikh Khalifa Foundation under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Alnahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, in his unceasing effort to enhance the well-being and improve healthcare access to the people of Seychelles.

Chargé d’affaires Alneyadi said: “These donations are a testimony of the strong bond of friendship and partnership in bridging gaps in healthcare provision. The donations will directly benefit countless individuals who may have otherwise faced challenges in accessing timely and quality treatment.”

He also thanked Heath Minister Peggy Vidot and HCA chief executive Dr Danny Louange, before expressing his best wishes to the dedicated doctors, nurses, healthcare staff and other medical practitioners for their tireless efforts and dedication in ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to receive the best medical care in Seychelles.
