A three-day training of trainers programme took place this week on foresight and systems thinking for strategic planning and finance for sustainable development goals in the country.

The training is focusing on capacity development to support the attainment of Vision 2033, implementation of the National Development Strategy and the 2024-2028 United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework’s goal of fostering resilience and inclusion.

The initiative has as objective to instill a system-based methodology for inter-sectoral collaboration and the utilisation of scientific evidence in annual planning, resource allocation, and budgeting processes for effective National Development Strategy (NDS) implementation.

This week’s training session forms the initial stages in equipping officials from the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade with skills in systems thinking and strategic foresight.

The aim is to enable them to mentor others across government and enhance capacities for strategic planning and resource allocation during the state budget preparation while fostering a more coherent, forward-looking, and risk-informed approach to NDS implementation.

The programme is jointly organised by UN DESA (Department of Economic and Social Affairs), UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research)and the UN Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO) for Seychelles and Mauritius.

Further trainings for other government entities will take place later this month.
