Patsy Canaya is the new chief editor of Seychelles NATION newspaper, replacing Marie-Anne Lepathy who retired last year because of ill-health –exactly five years after taking on the role.

The journalist has experience with both public and private media, and has also been involved with international media organisations as freelance journalist for Reporters Without Borders, and JusticeInfo, during their coverage of the Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission (TRNUC).

An active advocate of journalists’ rights, Ms Canaya has been a member of the local Association of Media Practitioners (Seychelles) {AMPS} since its inception in 2014. She is presently their representative on the governing council of Congress of African Journalists (CAJ).

Ms Canaya is also a member of ‘Les Panafricaines’, a platform of women journalists from Africa, since 2018.

“It is an honour to be taking on this huge responsibility. Journalism is an amazing field and I am grateful that my efforts have been recognised after so many years of hard work and I am really looking forward to the challenge and taking this renowned, well-established daily newspaper to greater heights,” said Ms Canaya.

Ms Canaya is the second female journalist after Mrs Lepathy to take on the role of chief editor of the Seychelles NATION newspaper.
