Young Speaker to step up his work towards youth development in 2024

Said Lesperance

In 2023, Said Lesperance, 14, from Praslin secondary, became the first Speaker of the Seychelles National Youth Assembly (SNYA) to be elected. A feat that exposed the youngster to many local events. Said stated that chairing the “education platform” has allowed him to grow, and develop various skills such as his communication. As a member of the 18th cohort, he has attended several activities, including a talk by the Seychelles Rights Commission, which allowed him to learn about Seychelles’ Constitutions and laws.

Apart from the election, his other biggest achievement in 2023 was being part of the Presidential delegation that travelled to Madagascar for the 11th Indian Ocean Island Games.

His goal for 2024 is to focus on his studies and promote the Youth Assembly, further elevating it.

“I want to use the time I have left as speaker to encourage more youngsters like myself to join the Assembly,” he added.

Last but not least, Said wants to be more active at his school, Praslin secondary, carrying out the tasks he was unable to perform as Head boy in 2023.
