First Victoria Christmas lights parade impresses onlookers

Hundreds of spectators converged in town last Saturday to witness the first ever Victoria Christmas lights parade, led by the Mayor’s Office.

Acting Mayor, Lydia Charlie, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, commending them for making a special effort to be present, recognising the challenges faced by many families in the aftermath of two recent disasters in the country.

Ms Charlie expressed the desire to demonstrate solidarity and support, noting that, despite adversities, there was always light and hope.

She also expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the show, acknowledging their role in bringing joy to the community during challenging times.

The parade featured an impressive lineup of participants, including the Mayor's Office, Plaisance Primary Boys Choir, Seychelles Police, Seychelles Hindu Kovil Sangam, Seychelles National Youth Council, Cable & Wireless Seychelles, Seychelles Breweries, Emergency Crew Dance Group, All-Star Dance Group, the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency, and the National Brass Band. There were also motorsport lovers who had turned up with their modified cars and bikes, which left spectators, especially children, in awe, as they showcased the special effects ranging from lights, sound, and shooting flames. Fire engines and police cars with their sirens blaring, adorned in different coloured lights also mesmerised the onlookers.

The parade began at the car park, next to the Mayor's Office, making its way along landmarks such as the Post Office, Kingsgate House, Liberty Monument, Gran Kaz, National Library, Maison Esplanade, and concluding at its starting point.

The over two-hour Christmas lights parade was surely impressive, and described as successful by the Mayor’s Office, which is surely considering maintaining it as an annual rendezvous.
