Fregate Island Foundation reaches out to disaster victims

Families temporarily residing at the Petit Seminaire following the explosion in Cascade, have received several household items for their daily use.

The generous donation sponsored by Fregate Island Foundation was handed over to the International Friendship League (IFL) and the Seychelles Community Training Institute (SECTI).

On Wednesday afternoon, the organisations’ representative, Marie-Nella Azemia, handed the items to the families.

One of the recipients, Robert Jean, whose house was severely damaged in the blast, said he was exceptionally grateful for the shelter provided at Petit Seminaire and the donation. He is still recovering from the injuries sustained on December 7.

“I am now completely paralysed in my left leg, with pieces of glass still stuck in,” he shared.

Also present was Anne Casket and her family of four, who expressed their deepest gratitude to Fregate Island Foundation for the donation. Ms Casket shared that things have not been easy considering she is the only working parent.

“Though we are safe and comfortable at the moment, we have been affected psychologically and it will forever leave a mark,” she said.

Both IFL and SECTI thanked Fregate Island Foundation, the staff at Petit Seminaire and other individuals who have attended to the families since the disasters, for their “act of kindness, generosity and solidarity in this time of need”.

SECTI entered into partnership with Fregate Island Foundation two years ago and the foundation has been supplying basic food items and vegetables, which have been distributed to those in need throughout the year.
