Accused’s fate in the balance at the time of going to press

The Supreme Court, presided by Judge Brassel Adeline, spent the whole day yesterday to present the summary into the murder case of Romentha Wadugodapitiya born Estico, who died following multiple stab wounds on June 21, 2022 in Mont Buxton.

The person charged with the murder was her husband, Eliston Wadugodapitiya, who was formally charged for murder on July 19, 2022.

His trial has been under way for several weeks with the Supreme Court hearing evidence from over 20 witnesses and viewing over 60 pieces of exhibits.

The prosecution was led by two Counsels – Ketlynn Marie and Corinne Rose – and throughout the legal proceedings, Eliston Wadugodapitiya was represented by Counsel Daniel Cesar.

The court was expected to give its ruling into the murder yesterday but at the time of going to press shortly before midnight, Judge Adeline was yet to pronounce his ruling.
