Community unites in urgent blood donation appeal for former MNA Marc Volcère   |22 August 2023

Seychelles witnesses a rallying call as urgent blood donation efforts are underway to support former member of the National Assembly, Marc Volcère, who is battling cancer.

Those willing to contribute are encouraged to donate at the Victoria blood bank, with a heartfelt plea for solidarity and assistance.

Seychelles NATION engaged with Alvin Grandcourt, the driving force behind the blood drive, to delve into the logistical details. Mr Grandcourt promptly launched a social media appeal aimed at galvanising potential donors for Mr Volcère. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with the message spreading swiftly through online platforms.

Should a group of 15 individuals in Praslin express their willingness to contribute, the blood transfusion unit from Mahe will journey to Praslin, facilitating the blood collection process.

"We are actively compiling names and contact details of potential donors in Praslin to facilitate the unit's visit," explained Mr Grandcourt.

For those residing on La Digue, participation will entail a journey to Praslin on the designated donation day, a date that is yet to be finalised.

Community members are encouraged to amplify the call for assistance through WhatsApp groups, family gatherings, and communal conversations.

Mr Grandcourt concluded by extending heartfelt thoughts and well wishes to Mr Volcère, underscoring the significance of collective action for a noble cause.

"This is an opportunity for Seychellois to stand together in support of a fellow citizen," he added.

Mr Volcère's distinguished reputation precedes him; a former MNA for Grand Anse Praslin, he played an active role in the Anglican church choir. His presence has symbolised hope, compassion, and unity. Throughout his life, he demonstrated unwavering dedication to aiding others. In this moment, the community has the privilege to reciprocate that kindness and support him in his time of need.
