Outgoing ILO director for Madagascar, Comoros, Mauritius and Seychelles bids farewell |02 August 2023

Dr Coffi Agossou, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) director for Madagascar, Comoros, Mauritius, and Seychelles recently paid a farewell call on the principal secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave, marking the end of his tenure.

During the meeting, PS Fock Tave expressed Seychelles’ firm commitment to continue to engage with the ILO on various issues related to Decent Work.

Discussions revolved around promoting jobs and enterprise, safeguarding workers' rights, extending social protection, and fostering social dialogue – all of which are integral to the promotion of the principles and goals of Decent Work.

PS Fock Tave also acknowledged the remarkable achievements of Dr Agossou as the outgoing ILO country director, particularly his contributions to advancing labour rights in Seychelles and within the region.

His efforts in establishing partnerships, engaging stakeholders, and driving result-oriented projects have led to a positive impact on Seychelles’ labour landscape.

On his part, Dr Agossou commended Seychelles’ proactive approach to exploring opportunities

offered by the Blue Economy.

This commitment is aimed at shaping a more promising future of work, aligned with the ILO’s mission to foster inclusive and sustainable growth.

Reflecting on his tenure, he recalled the dedication of the government to promote Decent Work principles and advancing the rights of workers across the country.

His recognition of Seychelles' efforts underscores the collaborative spirit between the ILO and Seychelles in achieving shared goals.

As Dr Agossou takes on his new assignment as the deputy regional director for the ILO at

the regional office in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, PS Fock Tave extended heartfelt well[1]wishes for his future endeavours.

The ILO is a United Nations agency responsible for promoting social justice and internationally recognised labour rights. It formulates policies and programmes to improve labour conditions, protect workers' rights, and foster decent work opportunities worldwide.

Seychelles has been a member of the ILO since 1977.
