Airtel presents modem to Perseverance secondary school

The handover of the router

Airtel has played a significant role in assisting Perseverance secondary school to achieve its goal of internet connection by generously donating a modem with internet access.

This valuable contribution will enable the school to enhance its regional and international undertakings, fostering better efficiency and connectivity.

The formal handover of the modem took place on Friday morning at the school premises, with Brand and Marketing Communications manager, Jude Valmont, representing Airtel and Carol Athanasius, the Design & Technology teacher, accepting the router on behalf of Ile Perseverance.

Mr Valmont expressed Airtel's commitment to supporting educational initiatives, stating, “We believe in this and we encourage it. It is also part of our corporate social responsibility, especially projects that focus on the environment, biodiversity, and the ocean. These are causes we wholeheartedly support."

He highlighted the opportune timing of the donation as Airtel is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, along with the revamping of its logo from ‘Airtel Smartphone Network’ to ‘Airtel A Reason to Imagine’.

Mr Valmont emphasised the company's dedication to providing connectivity to the youth of Africa, particularly in Seychelles, allowing them to explore opportunities and experience the world through a simple internet connection.

Addressing the students, he expressed his delight in seeing many young individuals joining SeyBlue and commended their commitment to the group.

Addressing the prevalent issue of negativity on social media, Mr Valmont urged the students to be positive examples for others and continue to showcase the power of positivity on online platforms.

In her thank-you speech, Ms Athanasius emphasised the importance of technical proficiency in the 21st century.

She acknowledged the shift towards virtual activities and the crucial role that information communications and reliable network play, especially in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. “On behalf of our school and the SeyBlue team, thank you for this invaluable contribution," she expressed her gratitude.

As a token of appreciation, the students presented Mr Valmont with a small token of thanks and extended their vote of thanks.

The donated router will also prove instrumental in supporting one of the school's latest projects, the ADOPT A FLOAT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME. This initiative involved sixteen S3 students from Ile Perseverance secondary school visiting the Research Vessel SA Agulhas II for the Indian Ocean Expedition of the Explorations de Monaco, held between October 27 and 31, 2022. The visit was coordinated by the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy in collaboration with the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) section at the Ministry of Education.

Notably, students of Ile Perseverance secondary school were among the first group to adopt an AGRO profiling float, presented to the Seychelles government by the Principality of Monaco. This float, named SeyBlue by the students, was released during the second leg of the mission by the scientists of BGC Argo.

With the aid of the newly donated router, the school will be able to conduct virtual meetings and efficiently track the float's movements online, further enhancing the educational experience for the students involved in this remarkable project.
