SRC joins Curieuse coastal restoration project

Twenty-three (23) officers from the Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) recently took part in the Curieuse coastal restoration project organised in collaboration with the Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority (SPGA).

Strengthening the existing partnership between the two entities and extending its support to the general community, the corporate social responsibility project, saw over fifty mangrove trees locally known as ‘Bonnen Kare’ planted by members of the organisation on the day.

Building on its commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable development, the initiative to join the restoration project forms part of SRC’s organisational strategy to start going green as embedded in the name of its upcoming new building currently being constructed, called ‘Maison Manglier’.

As a sanctuary for flora and fauna, Curieuse Island’s unique biodiversity boasts a collection of Seychelles’ rare endemic species, such as the flycatchers, the giant tortoises introduced from Aldabra to the world’s biggest nut, the legendary coco de mer.

The event which also served as a team building opportunity gathered officers from SRC offices based on the island of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.

Speaking about the experience, an officer from the SRC’s Registry Unit, Fredrica Fabien, explained, “this great initiative has not only brought SRC’s officers together in a team building activity, but it has also enabled us to understand the importance of protecting our environment, given the impact of erosion the island is facing. We understand that SRC’s overall mandate is to collect revenue through tax, however a great part of what we do remains our commitment and dedication in making a clear and positive contribution across the Seychelles community”.

On their part, the SRC social committee being the main organiser of this initiative expressed their gratitude to all officers who had volunteered for this activity which will not only leave a remarkable impact on the local environment on the island, but on the entire ecosystem for generations to come.

The social committee also conveyed their sincere thanks towards the SPGA for their collaboration from the planning stage to the execution of the activity, and in making the event possible.

As part of its corporate social responsibility programme, SRC will continue to work with like-minded agencies in an effort to raise awareness about sustainable development, to continue to safeguard the environment for the future and to attain the desired level of excellence in sustainable development within its organisation in preparation for the move to its new building.
