A large group of people turned up at the fitness trail on Saturday afternoon to take part in a fun run in support of people with autism.

The awareness fun run was organised by Autism Seychelles in collaboration with the Family department within the Ministry of Youth, Sports and the Family.

The run was in commemoration of Autism month which is this month (April).

Before the race, in the presence of the Minister for Health, Peggy Vidot, parents, friends and children, Creole Travel Services represented by PR and brand manager, Dianne Dalida, presented a donation of R5000 on behalf of the tourism company to the chairman of Autism Seychelles Christian Faure.

On behalf of Queen’s Butcher Shop, based at Victoria Market, Julie Sanders donated R4000 to the chairman, money collected through a money box from various generous donors visiting the meat shop.

Speaking to Seychelles NATION, Mr Faure said that the money will form part of contributions to finish the autism centre at North East Point so that people with autism will have a place to enjoy facilities and services to be put in place for them.

He added that among other projects for the new board that was elected in December 2022, is to conduct a survey to know the exact number of people with autism in the country.

The enthusiastic participants had a five-minute warm up led by physical instructor Williana Dubois from the National Sports Council, before heading on the race track for the 45-minute lap of running and walking. While going round the trail, they had the opportunity to read autism awareness messages including having hand prints as mementos.
