The ambassador of the Republic of Ivory Coast to the Republic of Seychelles, Sakaria Kone, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change & Environment, Flavien Joubert,

at his secretariat, Unity House, on Thursday this week.

Mr Kone was accompanied by Marie-Emmanuelle Fofana-Ouattara, secretary of Foreign Affairs in the embassy and Elie Rasin, honorary consul of the Republic of Ivory Coast in Seychelles.

The minister and ambassador Kone centered their discussions on various areas of

cooperation within the ministry.

Ambassador Kone highlighted that Ivory Coast is well-known for producing a wide variety of cash crops namely cashew nuts, cotton and rubber. He also commended the minister and his team for implementing climate adaptation projects such as rock armouring and sea walls to combat the impact of climate change.

Ambassador Kone briefly mentioned the different opportunities and training programmes that can help Seychelles increase the level of knowledge in local food production.

On his part, Minister Joubert stated that capacity building of the extension officers and

technical staff is a priority within the Agriculture department. Proper training of staff

working closely with farmers on field will move up the value chain of quality products.

The Agriculture department, together with the office of the ambassador of the Republic of Ivory

Coast to the Republic of Seychelles, have initiated a discussion for preparing a memorandum of understanding (MoU), the main objective of which is to build a productive partnership for cooperation in the area of agriculture and capacity building.
