Assembly MYSCC members discuss youth-related matters with key SNYC officials

Numerous issues concerning youth development, wellbeing, programmes, activities and services for them at both the national and district level were discussed at length during a meeting that members of the National Assembly’s Media, Youth, Sports and Culture Committee held  recently with the management and key officials of the Seychelles National Youth Council.

The Media, Youth, Sports and Culture Committee (MYSCC) members were welcomed at the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) head office at the SACOS Tower  by its newly appointed chief executive, Albert Duncan; the director of the youth empowerment and wellbeing, Marcus Mederic; the director of the youth engagement, Simon Barra; the programme coordinator for the youth leadership section, Josette Cadence; and the public relations, information and communication officer, Marie May Larue.

Among the series of issues that were on the table and discussed at length were the locations of the SNYC’s offices on Praslin and La Digue.

The MYSCC members were informed that youth activities and services in the districts are now being offered at regional level and work is under way to further develop active interest groups.

The different youth programmes and activities that the SNYC are offering were the highlights of the discussions. The committee members were eager to get details on the current programmes being provided by the SNYC staff and the level of youth involvement.
Another significant point of discussion was the need for the SNYC activities, programmes and services to cater for and meet the needs of our country’s present day young people.

The MYSCC members were able to obtain more information on and clarify certain issues related to the Seychelles National Youth Assembly in relation to the upcoming election of its members, a newly introduced  practice.

The meeting was followed by a visit of the SNYC’s offices which currently occupy three floors of the SACOS Tower in Victoria. The Assembly committee members had the opportunity to interact with staff members and gain more insight into the nature of their work.

Discussions during the visit were centred around the recent revision of the remuneration packages of staff, their training and the roles of programme officers (previously known as youth workers) in engaging the youth and facilitating their access to the different services.

Members of the MYSCC included its chairperson Hon. Wavel Woodcock, vice-chairperson Hon. Philip Arissol, Hon. Kelly Samynadin, Hon. Naddy Zialor, and Hon. Flory Larue.

The accompanying photos show members of the MYSCC during their interactions with the SNYC officials.
