Newly appointed ambassador calls on President ahead of new posting, while second one retires

Newly appointed Seychelles ambassador to India, Lalatiana Accouche, has described this posting as a new challenge and one that she is looking forward to.

Mrs Accouche made the statement yesterday afternoon after paying a courtesy call on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House, ahead of her departure to New Delhi, next week, where she will head the Seychelles high commission there.

She will also be accredited to countries under the jurisdiction of the high commission.

“India is a new challenge, new country and new horizon, taking into account the historical link and the vast cooperation we have with India. So a new venue, and where there are things to build on, strengthen with India, it will be done,” said Ambassador Accouche.

Prior to her new posting, Mrs Accouche was based at the Foreign Affairs headquarters locally. Before that she served as ambassador to Cuba, and she was based in Havana.

The announcement of Ambasador Accouche’s new posting was made earlier this week along with the retirement of Ambassador Jean-Claude Adrienne, who is leaving the public service after 44 years, of which 42 were spent in diplomacy.

Ambassador Adrienne also paid a courtesy call on President Ramkalawan at State House yesterday afternoon. He however declined to make any statement about their discussion and on his tenure.

His last posting was as head of the Seychelles’ embassy in Abu Dhabi for the past six years.
