Gospel Show sets scene for Christmas

Helps to spread message of love and peace

Gospel lovers converged at the Victoria Gymnasium on Wednesday afternoon to sing along in a show organised by the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC).

‘Melodi Lafanmiy’ choir from Grand Anse Mahe’s St Famille Church, Christ Followers Church, and SNYC’s ‘Connect platform’, set up in March and which brings together youths with different beliefs and religious background, came together to perform and praise their lord in the one and a half hour show.

The répertoire included ‘Papa Vin Sov Nou Pei’ by Stana and Theresia which kicked off the event, followed by performances from ‘Melodi Lafanmiy’ Choir namely; ‘Sant Avek bann Arkanz’, ‘Les Mon Loue Mon Bondye’ ‘Pwisans Lanmour’, as well as the popular song from Christopher, ‘Sa Moman Spesyal’, and young singer Mary Monde who sang ‘Zenn Leve Pour Zezi’.

According to Youth Officer, Juliana Toussaint, who was coordinating the event, SNYC wanted to do a meaningful event that brought the young people together.

“We felt it was ideal that our members from different churches came together as part of our monthly encounter activity and this time we added the gospel element, where they could sing along and bring cheer to other people,” she told Seychelles NATION.

Mrs Toussaint said they managed to rope in some other groups and they have been rehearsing since November to ensure the show was a success.

“I am satisfied with the output and the quality because they all gave their best. Unfortunately, although we advertised on all available medium we did not get that many people attending the event,” said Mrs Toussaint.

The SNYC has thanked all those who turned up for the show for their support and Mrs Toussaint said they plan to do a bigger one outdoors next year.

“Because we did not get that much participation, the participants felt that we should do a repeat. So we will definitely come back with the groups that were present and rope in others for a bigger gospel show next year,” she said.

Among those attending the event was the Minister for Youth, Sports and Family, Marie-Celine Zialor and Minister for Education, Dr Justin Valentin, families and friends of the youths taking part in the show.
