Nelli’s fitness and dance class put on dazzling show

Over 50 participants of Nelli’s fitness and sega classes took to the stage at ICCS recently to show off their dance skills in a grand end-of-year show.

The women and children who regularly take the classes promoting fitness through the art of dance, performed before a large audience, comprising family, friends and loved ones, in the first major show organised by Nellianne Dookley, a professional dancer and instructor of the fitness classes.

Under the theme ‘Descendants’, a Disney Musical fantasy, the show depicted the family values and a sense of adventure.

As explained by Ms Dookley, she started her fitness club two years ago and it has been hugely popular thus far. Dance fitness classes are held at the Harbour Light Restaurant, Maison du Peuple, every day, although as from next year, she plans to hold them three times per week. Children’s classes are also popular, and those attending are taught a mix of ballet, traditional and modern dance by the three instructors as a means of keeping them fit, while also providing them an opportunity to develop their artistic talent.

“Our classes are held with both women and children, and we promote fitness and the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, while also empowering them and teaching them new skills. Since the ladies in our class have joined mainly for exercise purposes and lack any stage experience, we wanted them to come out of their shells and try something new,” she said of the idea behind the delightful show.

In addition to members of the dance fitness class who were attending last year, they were also supported by former members, Angels Choir and singer Taniah.

“I am really happy with how the show turned out. The participants have come so far, and to have seen the improvement, their determination, brings joy to us as instructors. In fact, all of those who were the most scared of being on stage ended up ‘killing it’ and giving it their all,” Ms Dookley added.

For the time being, classes are closed for the year, although the club will be welcoming new members as from January. Classes are to resume in February after the January registration process.
