New exit road linking Providence Industrial Estate to the highway opens

Minister Vidot, PS Andre, CEO Collie and Mr Nancy in discussion at the site

A new ‘exit road’ linking the Providence Industrial Estate to the highway is now open for use.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Investment, Entrepreneurship and Industry, Devika Vidot, during a visit at the site yesterday morning.

The minister was accompanied by the principal secretary for Transport, Patrick Andre, and the chief executive of the Industrial Estates Authority (IEA), Roy Collie.

Other than accessing and exiting the estate via the roundabout, motorists driving South from Victoria can now also enter zone 19 and zone 20 through the new exit road and also make their exits via the same way, but going South through the highway.

Motorists coming from zone 20 can also continue along the stretch of road, which is connected to zone 19, to exit the estate via the roundabout.

“This road facility is one which will improve circulation within Providence and we’re expecting that it will reduce the traffic congestion that we are experiencing currently. Therefore we are happy that we’re able to officially make this announcement today because we know that it’s going to be something of great benefit to the Providence industrial estate,” Minister Vidot said.

The new exit road is part of a R30 million road construction and utilities infrastructure development projects in zone 19 and zone 20 of the estate being undertaken by Turnkey Solutions. The contract for the above mentioned development projects was previously awarded to Vijay Construction Company Ltd, which was started but did not complete. The construction of feeder roads in zone 19 are to alleviate flooding that occurs during heavy rains and high tide which affects the buildings and equipment in the area.

Work on the alternative exit route out of Providence by Turnkey Solutions started in May 2022 and was completed last month. There are no parking zones near the exit road.

The director of Turnkey Solutions, Wilson Nancy, said that they had to modify the previous drawing plan of the exit road among synchronising various issues in relation to its construction in regards to utility corridors present in the area which was not on the original plan.

He noted that actual physical work started in June.
