Seychelles delegation take part in communication training on ARIPO rights system |10 November 2022

A delegation from Seychelles is attending a communication training on the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO) rights system.

It is the first time that ARIPO organises such a training for its member states.

Seychelles became a member of ARIPO on October 1, 2021.

Along with ARIPO, the training is also being co-hosted by the Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation Project in Africa (AfrIPI).

During the three-day training being held between November 8-10 in Harare, Zimbabwe, participants are building their capacity to better understand intellectual property issues, with the objective of raising awareness among stakeholders, promoting IP rights and protecting intellectual property.

The training will review those rights, including patents, trademarks, copyright and related rights, utility models, industrial designs, geographical indications, plant varieties, and trade secrets, and how to communicate them to the public.

This communication training is being held because ARIPO acknowledges the complexity of property rights, and that is why it is important to assist those promoting IP to gain the necessary skills to demystify the issues around IP, in order to communicate better with the general public on the importance and impact of IP on their daily lives.

Participants from more than 20 African countries are attending the training.

Seychelles’ three-member delegation comprises Aissata Dia (Trade department), Samantha Tangalam (Registration division) and Julio Moustache (Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation).
