Part of the highway from the Seychelles International Airport up to the Providence roundabout will be closed today as from 10am as the police and competent authority will be in this area to conduct an in depth investigation and survey into the recent fatal accident that occurred on that stretch of road.

Traffic police officers will be on site to divert traffic going to and from Victoria directing vehicle owners to use the Cascade road.

The public will be informed when the stretch of the highway will re-open but the survey is expected to be completed before 4pm.

Speaking to the press yesterday afternoon, sub inspector (SI) in charge of investigation in the Traffic Section of the police, Eric Bastienne, said the survey is a routine procedure with every fatal accident.

SI Bastienne noted that usually police officers on the scene of an accident draw a first rough sketch plan of the road accident but later a proper survey is conducted by more competent authorities.

“This is why we need the survey team, they can give us the exact points of origin in case the markings we drew have been erased and the Court asks for them, then the surveyor can bring out the proper plan to detail what occurred,” SI Bastienne explained.

There is a possibility that the survey can be used to determine what exactly occurred and who was in the wrong. However it is only through the conclusion of a court case that the information will be given.
