ACCS lawyer Karen Robinson granted four weeks to prepare case against Fareen Rajan |24 June 2022

The Supreme Court has set July 21, 2022 at 9.30am to hear the Republic against Fareen Rajan, the eighth suspect being prosecuted by the Anti-Corruption Commission of Seychelles (ACCS) in the case of the missing US $50 million donated to Seychelles in 2002 by the Abu Dhabi government.

The ruling was given by Justice Rony Govinden in court yesterday morning.

ACCS lawyer, Karen Robinson, a British national, told judge Govinden that as she had had to conduct her own investigation in her first two weeks on the case while in the country, she will be returning to the United Kingdom to work on how the case against Ms Rajan will proceed and therefore will need four weeks at the most to prepare her case.

Ms Rajan, who was released on a R500,000 bail, along with certain strict conditions imposed by the court, has been charged with making false documents and complicity to obtain false documents along with the first and second suspects in the case, Mukesh and Laura Valabhji.

The case pertains to a loan of US $4,000,000 which Ms Rajan obtained from a company based at Providence on Mahé to buy US $2,000,000 in company shares for Apollo Towers Holdings Pty Ltd., Singapore, in 2016, for which Ms Rajan had been charged with making false documents and complicity to obtain the false documents.

Justice Govinden was also informed that yesterday (June 23) was the last day that ACCS will seek to ask for extra days to compile its case against Ms Rajan.

Ms Rajan, a British citizen, was arrested at the Seychelles International Airport on Friday January 21 at 10.30pm while leaving the country following a red alert notice issued by the court earlier that day.
