Local environmental non-governmental organisations, especially those involving the youth, will now have broader avenues of international exchanges in terms of biodiversity preservation, while building up collaboration and partnership.

This follows discussions between founder of Green Teen Team Foundation, Princess Theodora von Liechtenstein and several local entities which champion environmental and biodiversity conservation and protection.

Presently in the country, Princess Theodora, who is not only the founder but an active participant in the running of the foundation’s projects, believes that we can all make changes in our lives to help save the planet’s biodiversity, even children.

Her first stop yesterday was at the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment (MACCE) where she met with Minister Flavien Joubert and his team and among the discussions was the ongoing research on giant tortoises, whereby two papers have already been presented regarding the matter.

Minister Joubert described the visit as part of a long-term relationship and also an opportunity for local organisations to build up contact and liaison with international organisations with similar causes.

The Green Teen Team Foundation was founded in May 2014 and its objective is to empower children to be able to make changes to their lives, the lives of others and the life of the planet.

This is done by engaging children with nature via worldwide projects that connect with nature organisations, schools and social groups.

The princess’ second stop yesterday was at the Botanical House where she met with principal secretary for Tourism, Sherin Francis.

In the afternoon, Princess Theodora and her delegation met with principal secretary for Youth and Sports Ralph Jean-Louis, along with a group of students from the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at Family House at Bel Eau, where she planted a ‘Bwa Sagay’ seedling.

During her visit, Princess Theodora will also call on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House, meet with the chief executive of the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (Ceps) Alvin Laurence and other environment groups. She will also sign an agreement between the Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority (SPGA) and the Green Teen Team Foundation.
