Newly accredited high commissioner of Ghana pays courtesy call on Foreign Minister Radegonde

The newly accredited High Commissioner of Ghana, Charles Asuako Owiredu, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister Sylvestre Radegonde yesterday at the Maison Quéau de Quinssy.

During his audience with Minister Radegonde, the high commissioner extended fraternal greetings from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway. Seychelles and Ghana have shared excellent bilateral relations throughout the years. Noting the strong historical links dating back to 1900 when King Prempeh of the Ashanti was exiled in Seychelles for up to 24 years.

The diplomats agreed that they should aim to push through these meaningful relations by venturing into sectors of education, tourism and fisheries. The exchange of knowledge and workforce will mutually benefit both countries.

They also addressed the point of the current and potential agreements to be signed between the Republic of Seychelles and the Republic of Ghana. Minister Radegonde also welcomed the high commissioner’s proposal for short-term training of Seychellois diplomats in Ghana.

Additionally, Minister Radegonde sought Ghana’s support in advocating for the small island developing states (Sids) on international platforms on factors such as vulnerability and climate change which directly affect Sids like Seychelles.

Seychelles and Ghana established diplomatic relations in 1988.

Also present at the meeting were principal secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave, director for bilateral affairs Patsy Moustache and third secretary Nisha Serret.
