As part of its youth development programme and efforts to promote table tennis locally, the Seychelles Table Tennis Association has donated a set of equipment to the President’s Village of Port Glaud.

It was during a small ceremony on Friday at the Omnisports Gym, Roche Caïman, that Seychelles Table Tennis Association (STTA) chairman Francis Remie presented the equipment comprising a table, nets, balls, scoreboard and training manual to the village’s programme coordinator Daniel Commettant.

As coordinator, it will be Mr Commettant’s responsibility to teach the kids how to play and for that he was given a special badge which confirms him as certified mentor.

Handing over the equipment, Mr Remie said the STTA is happy to be involved in the life of the children at the President’s Village, especially introducing them to table tennis.

He added that the donation is also targeting promotion of the sport with the aim of scouting serious, disciplined and skilful players who will be the future generation of champions.

Mr Remie further noted that it is the plan of the STTA to disseminate the sport at district level, especially in schools, adding that this donation shows that the President’s Village has not been left out.

He also noted that since the donation is being made at a time when the Olympic Games are being held in Tokyo, Japan, they hope the Games will somewhat have an influence on the youth, thus getting more youngsters to join the sport, and why not become future Olympians.

On behalf of the President’s Village, Mr Commettant thanked the STTA for the equipment and the new connection which he expects to last for many more years.
