A delegation from the Republic of Congo met with Vice-President Ahmed Afif and the Minister for Tourism and Foreign Affairs Sylvestre Radegonde yesterday afternoon at State House.

The delegation is here to seek Seychelles’ support in regards to Congo’s bid for the post of general secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Speaking to the press following the meeting, Didier Mazenga Mukanzu, Minister for Regional Integration and Francophone of the Democratic Republic of Congo, said: “Seychelles and the Democratic Republic of Congohave been working together for many years as we belong to the same international organisations such as the SADC.”

He further added that not too long ago a delegate from Seychelles was appointed to the position of deputy chief of the SADC with the support of the Democratic Republic of Congo and he hopes that Seychelles will return the favour.

For his part, Minister Radegonde said Botswana has also asked for the support of Seychelles in regards to the post, in fact the President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, plans to visit Seychelles in the coming weeks to ask for the support himself.

Minister Radegonde added that they will review the two countries’ nomination and then choose which one to support.
