Cabinet Business More legal and policy memoranda considered |22 July 2021

President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet yesterday, Wednesday July 21, at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.

Cabinet approved for the revised Indian Ocean Commission Agreement which outlines cooperation among the commission’s member states. The agreement will be sent to the National Assembly for ratification.

Cabinet was briefed on the proposed review of the existing European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) and operation Atalanta. Operation Atalanta is the counter-piracy military operation at sea off the Horn of Africa and in the Western Indian Ocean. Cabinet approved for the establishment of a technical working group to conduct an evaluation of the challenges encountered during the implementation of the existing agreement on transfer of suspected pirates. The committee will also assess the national capacity and capabilities of Seychelles in relation to the implementation of the proposed agreement.

Cabinet was briefed on results of the Pest Risk Analysis for market access of agricultural products between Seychelles and Turkey and the reasons for both government of Turkey and Seychelles to approve two suppliers for vegetables from Turkey.

Cabinet approved for the launch of an Expression of Interest on August 1 for companies wishing to participate in the implementation of the offshore sand replenishment project. The project aims to meet market demand for sand in the construction industry.

Cabinet approved the Solid Waste Management plan 2020-2035 and medium-term measures to help government attain its vision for a cleaner Seychelles.
