66 staff reach long service milestone with SCAA

Sixty-six staff are this year being recognised for their years of service with the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority and among the cohort are two long serving employees who have been with the organisation for 40 years.

With the health restrictions in place, the commemorative annual ceremony which coincides with the 50th anniversary since the first commercial jet ‒ the British Overseas Airways Corporation ‒ landed in Seychelles, was a low-key event.

However, as has been customary over the years, the company did not fail to recognise faithful employees by awarding them with certificates of recognition and tokens of appreciation from the organisation. They were also able to take souvenir photos.

Though Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) chief executive Garry Albert could not deliver his speech as he usually does on such an auspicious occasion, he sent a congratulatory message and words of appreciation to the awardees whom he commended for their “loyalty and unwavering commitment to SCAA.”

In his message, Mr Albert noted that the dedication of the long serving staff should be “loudly and publicly applauded.”

He added that organisational achievements are made possible because of “your individual contributions, professionalism and hard work.”

“As we chart our way forward, I would like to renew SCAA’s commitment to continue valuing your talents and efforts and allocating the necessary resources to develop your ability to its fullest potential,” he said.

Mr Albert also called on the awardees to continue to uphold the organisation’s values and to live and deliver on its vision so that SCAA remains the well-respected organisation that it is today.

It is worth noting that this year two staff are being honoured for their 40 years anniversary since they joined the organisation back in 1981. Marjorie Belle, a housekeeper and Michel Leggaie a painter, are both grateful that they have been able to stay in the industry for so many years and they hope to contribute towards the organisation until their retirement.

Peggy Esparon, the deputy manager of airport terminal services, is the only staff who is celebrating her 35 years work anniversary. She joined the organisation back in 1986 as an air traffic control assistant and has held other positions throughout the years.

Among other staff who have contributed and served the organisation for many years, 35 are celebrating their 10-year milestone and nine have clocked 15 years. Five employees have been recognised for their 20 years of service, nine for their 25 years and a group of five for 30 years.

This year will remain as a memorable one for the awardees as they are being honoured at the same time that we commemorate the golden anniversary of the landing of the commercial jet at the airport.
