The Minister for Finance, Economic Planning and Trade, Naadir Hassan, has held a courtesy meeting with the new Angolan ambassador to Seychelles, Sandro Renato Agostinho de Oliveira.

The courtesy meeting took place yesterday morning at Liberty House.

Discussions centered around cooperation where both countries can share their experiences and expertise.

Ambassador de Oliveira noted that Seychelles have expertise in several areas, which can be shared with his country, such as: tax revenue collection, fiscal policies, stock exchange, foreign exchange market, and the fight against money laundering and financing of terrorism.

“Seychelles has good experience in these areas, and we can work together to advance cooperation to see how they can be carried out,” said Ambassador de Oliveira.

Minister Hassan has welcomed the call to advance cooperation between the two countries, especially in the financial and economic sectors.

“The ministry is very engaged to share its experience, from anti-money laundering to tax reforms as we have very good technical expertise in these fields.”

Both Minister Hassan and Ambassador de Oliveira pointed out how important it is to have cooperation among African countries, taking into account the devastating financial and economic impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the continent.

They have expressed their hope that with the right cooperation between African countries, the continent can recover economically.

Elizabeth Agathine, principal secretary for Economic Planning, was also present during the meeting.

Ambassador de Oliveira has been in the country on official duties since the start of the week.

On Tuesday June 1, he presented his accreditation documents to President Wavel Ramkalawan, and on the same day, during a courtesy call on the Ministerfor Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, he signed two cooperation agreements – a General Cooperation Agreement and an Agreement on the Creation of a Bilateral Commission.

Seychelles and Angola established diplomatic relations in November 1986.
