To ensure consistent availability of packed rice, the Seychelles Trading Company (STC) has purchased a new rice packing machine which is expected in the country by October 2021.
The decision to buy a new machine comes after STC has been struggling to meet increasing demand for pre-packed rice on account of the fact that its existing rice packing machine, which is over 20 years old, keeps breaking down hence resulting in a shortage of pre-packed rice on the market.
STC, being one among the main importers of rice in Seychelles, has recognised the constant challenges of rice packing when it comes to meeting consumers’ demand at retail.
The company offers to its wholesale customers on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue bulk rice in basmati and long grain varieties, while the same types of rice are also available in pre-packaged bags in all STC supermarkets and hypermarket for the mass population.
“With the increasingly growing demand for pre packed rice, STC has been lately facing difficulties with its existing rice packing machine which is over 20 years old and keeps breaking down hence resulting in a shortage of pre-packed rice on the market,” a press release from STC said.
“With the procurement of spares locally, the machine is now up and running and we are back into production. However, to ensure consistent production of packed rice, the STC has already purchased a new rice packing machine which is
expected in the country by October 2021 and we expect the problem to be resolved once and for all,” the press release explained.
Meanwhile STC has thanked its customers for their understanding and has assured them that STC is doing its utmost to remedy the situation.
