In a bid to encourage more Seychellois to visit the outer islands, the Islands Development Company (IDC) has announced its intention to lower return flight fares to the islands to R3000 between the months of September 2019 to May 2020.

During a recent visit to Astove and Alphonse island, chief executive of IDC, Glenny Savy, noted that the entity wants more Seychellois to experience the thirteen outer islands managed by IDC including Alphonse, Astove, Farquar and Assomption.

According to Mr Savy, Silhouette and Desroches are already popular destinations among the local population due to lower flight fares on account of their close geographical location to Mahé.

“In principle, on almost all our islands now we have an IDC guesthouse which is a facility at the disposition of Seychellois and they can use it at a reasonable cost and on a per day basis. Silhouette and Desroches are popular because the transportation time is shorter than other outer islands and the transportation costs to other islands like Alphonse are much higher. We have taken a decision with the Board of Directors that we will make the price to Desroches the same as Alphonse, Farquhar, Remire and all other islands and that will start in September and it will reduce significantly the costs,” Mr Savy stated.

IDC has constructed small guest house accommodation on the islands to cater for visitors. Prices for accommodation equipped with air conditioning and inclusive of meals start from R500 on a per day basis. IDC operates more flights during the September to May season to coincide with the peak tourist season whereby it operates more flights to the outer islands.

IDC will make a formal announcement and provide more information to the public in the upcoming weeks.
