Laboratory staff recognised for their achievements and devotion

First prize winner Nicky Morel, lab technician of the food, water and environment unit of the SPHL

Established since 1987, the Seychelles Public Health Laboratory has for decades been recognising its staff for their achievements and devotion through annual ‘best worker’ awards.

Every year staff are evaluated by the Seychelles Public Health Laboratory (SPHL) management based on several criteria such as behaviour, punctuality, teamwork, among others. The management of the lab compiles points awarded based on the established criteria and the three best workers are chosen.

Head of the SPHL, Dr Leon Biscornet, noted that “although last year was a challenging one for the SPHL amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the SPHL could not reward its staff in the usual end-of-year gathering as they were busy with testing due to the surge at the time. SPHL however did not fail to reward its staff on Thursday April 29, just before Labour Day in a short ceremony in the courtyard of the Red Roof building at the Seychelles Hospital, with certificates for their efforts and prizes from the Seychelles Commercial Bank and SPHL management staff”.

Nicky Morel is the best worker for the year 2020. She has been a recipient of best worker award four times previously, having been working for SPHL since 2016. Irinie Gill, who joined SPHL in 2018, is a first time runner-up, while Isabelle Riaze, who is seconded to the SPHL by the Cleaners’ Cooperative since 2018, is the second runner-up.

Director general for public health, Dr Meggy Louange, thanked the staff for their work and congratulated the prize winners.

Dr Biscornet also thanked his hard working staff and the sponsors for their contributions.

The best workers awards are as follows: Best worker 2020 is Nicky Morel (prize sponsored by SCB); first runner-up is Irinie Gill (prize sponsored by SCB) and second runner-up is Isabelle Riaze (prize sponsored by SPHL management).
