Donors actively supporting Covid-19 Relief Fund, La Digue Hospital Fund |30 April 2021

The Office of the President has to date recorded overwhelming positive responses from donors contributing to the Covid-19 Relief Fund and the La Digue Hospital Fund.

Both funds, initiated by President Wavel Ramkalawan, are in support of the government's efforts to implement the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme and to mitigate the spread of the virus in the country.

The La Digue Hospital Fund was created to sustain local expenses being incurred by the project. To date, numerous donors, both locally and from overseas, have positively responded to the call made by the President.

The Covid-19 Relief Fund, managed by the Ministry of Finance, has since its creation collected a total of R78,258,764.17. As of April 27, 2021 the balance is R50,826,847.50 with various expenses incurred mostly in relation to the Ministry of Health and other Covid-19 public health related expenditures.

The La Digue Hospital Fund, launched earlier this month (April 5, 2021) has already accumulated a total of R2,088,411.13 to date.

Donors include the JJ Spirit Foundation which has recently donated the sum of R2 million to the fund. Other donations received include the sum of EUR 2990 from German Orthodontist, Magdelana Baska, a regular visitor to La Digue Island interested in offering her specialised dental services to La Digue and Seychelles. The fund has also recorded donations from other members of the community.

President Ramkalawan has conveyed his sincere appreciation to the donors of both funds as this is a clear sign of their solidarity with Seychelles.

“On behalf of the government, the people of Seychelles and on my own behalf, I wish to express my sincere gratitude for the generous contributions towards the Covid-19 Relief Fund and the La Digue Hospital Fund. Your kind gesture will further strengthen the capacity of our health professionals, implement other actions leading to mitigating the spread of the virus in the country as well as forge ahead with the project to build a modern Specialist Hospital on La Digue island. Thank you all for being there for Seychelles during these challenging times,” said President Ramkalawan.
