SDA youth make donations to some Perseverance families

The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) youth of St Louis made a small donation to the Perseverance north primary school.

This formed part of the activities to mark the Global Youth Day known as GYD.

The activity kicked off with prayers by Brother Daniel followed by Rebekah Labiche who explained the purpose of this activity.

“On March 20, 2021, the Seventh Day Adventist youth all over the world celebrated Global Youth Day (hereafter known as GYD). On this day Adventist youth as a global movement are mobilised for service, contributing to the proclamation of the everlasting gospel and ushering in the second coming of Jesus Christ. The theme for this year is ‘Reaching Out: Cultures, Colours and Community’. As such, the youth ministry of the St Louis church will reach out to children who are in need in the Perseverance community. The activity is organised mainly to donate food hampers and the book entitled 'Hope BeyondTomorrow’ to 25 families from the same district. We will also be welcoming one of our partner in sponsoring fruits and juices to the school for children who benefit from the Dedicated Fund.”

Meriza Avilla added that these activities are ongoing and it is an initiative of the youth department. “We have some 500 plus youth serving the community and during these trying times, the youth and children contribute towards these donations. We show the love of Christ through our actions. All our churches are located in different zones and all groups have their community projects.”

The parents and children who came this Saturday morning left with a basket of goodies.

GYD was launched on March 13, 2013. Its vision is to recapture the reality of Adventist youth as a global movement mobilised for service, contributing to the proclamation of the everlasting gospel and ushering in the second coming of Jesus Christ. There is a lot more to religious faith than simply going to church and listening to sermons. The true practice of religion involves the revelation of God’s love in living out Jesus’s gospel commission as He bade us to before He ascended to heaven: through all manners of selfless acts that point to a desperately needy world to the ultimate hope of the better world He has made possible for us. Grounded in the concluding words of Jesus in the parable of the Good Samaritan, ‘Go and do likewise’ (Luke 10:25-37), the theme of the Global Youth Day is ‘Be the sermon’.
