Chinese embassy keeps Seychelles National Choir safe in these Covid times

The handover of the donation

The Chinese embassy has donated 800 surgical face masks, 160 bottles of sanitisers and two thermometers to the Seychelles National Choir.

For years the Chinese embassy has been a wonderful supporter of the Seychelles National Choir, admirer of the beautiful singing skills and harmonies of its members under the guidance of conductor Mrs Lownam.

Since mid-March, and with the ease of restrictions, the choir is preparing from practicing online back to their twice-a-week routines, this time round with more than social distancing measures.

The international award winning choir has to prepare for the new season with the new normal: wearing masks during rehearsals and section training rather than having all members together in one room. Of course, sanitising and temperature checks will not be missed before the rehearsals and events. Additionally, as further safety measure, 98% of the choir members have been vaccinated.

Accepting the donation at a ceremony on Friday March 9 at the Chinese embassy at St Louis, Mrs Lownam said:

“We are extremely grateful for the gift. This will give us the opportunity to rehearse and take part in events. We will be using them to prepare and to go to our next events, in order to abide by the health authority’s regulations. We also hope to prepare and sing for an Easter concert. Furthermore, we have more online international competitions and presentations in mind. More information on that will be communicated in due time.”

The love for harmonies and singing together is what makes the National Choir a happy place. The choir members are looking forward to returning for rehearsals and performances and seeing each other again.
