ANB Communiqué A Brazilian national and two Seychellois remanded for drug offences |20 July 2019

The Magistrate Court has remanded three men – two Seychellois and one Brazilian national – for offences related to the importation and trafficking of drugs in two separate cases.

In the first case, a 31-year-old custom officer of Perseverance and a 23-year-old driver (taxi pirat) of Pointe Larue have been both remanded for the offence of conspiracy to traffic in a controlled drug.

The two Seychellois men were arrested by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Bureau (ANB) of the Seychelles Police Force on July 17, 2019 at the International Airport Cargo Terminal in possession of approximately 525 grammes of suspected cannabis resin (hashish).

They will remain on remand until July 29, 2019 when they will reappear before the courts while ANB continues its investigation in this case.

In the second case a 22-year-old Brazilian national has been remanded for 14 days after he was arrested by ANB officers for the offence of importation of a controlled drug. He was arrested on Monday July 17, 2019 at the Seychelles International Airport in possession of approximately 2 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine. He was arrested on the same day of his arrival after landing at the Seychelles International Airport on board an Ethiopian Airline flight from Addis Abba.

He will reappear before the court on August 1, 2019.
