‘Keep climbing the ladder to success’ – Minister Ferrari urges women

Minister Ferrari with staff of the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy

“Every year, on March 8, the world joins together to celebrate International Women’s Day. It gives me great pleasure, as the Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy, to share this message with women working in the fisheries and maritime sector.

“Every day of the year, in all corners of society, women have an important role to play. Women continue to challenge traditional roles, bringing innovation, creativity, and diversity to the workplace. In Seychelles, women are given equal job opportunities. Today presents an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women, particularly those working in traditional male dominated fields, such as the fisheries and maritime sector, and recognise the important contributions they make to support this pillar of our national economy. Yet, it also gives us the chance to take stock; in the maritime sphere, women continue to be underrepresented in senior management roles. So, as a country, when we cast our eyes to the future, and look to harness even more from our oceans, we need not only to encourage young girls and women to consider taking up a career in the maritime sector, but also ensure an enabling atmosphere to develop women as leaders.

“This year’s theme is ‘Choose to Challenge’. Women, young girls, the ocean is your oyster; there are endless opportunities, I challenge you to grab them! Keep climbing the ladder to success, you can count on my support to ensure there is always space for you in the arena!”
