CBS welcomes first cohort of Financial Education Youth Ambassadors |27 February 2021

The Central Bank of Seychelles has revealed the first group of Financial Education Youth Ambassadors, during a recent event held virtually.

All 43 young people aged between 16 and 30 years old who applied to take part in the 2021 Youth for Youth Financial Education Youth Ambassadors Programme have been selected, in a bid to maximise peer-to-peer learning and advocacy on financial education among the youth.

Speaking at the launch event, Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) Governor Caroline Abel welcomed the youth ambassadors as part of the CBS team and noted that the programme marks a new phase in CBS’ financial education engagement with the public.

“Use this opportunity to make a difference and create a positive impact in our society. Seek advice, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and keep in mind that you are never too young to make a difference,” said the Governor, as she addressed the group of youth ambassadors.

The 2021 programme will comprise two main segments, notably a knowledge programme to introduce the youngsters with Seychelles’ financial system as well as a skills programme to help them in developing soft skills such as effective communications and peer counselling. The youngsters will also receive help from the national financial education secretariat to develop and implement ideas and projects aimed at enhancing financial literacy in their communities.

The Youth for Youth Financial Education Youth Ambassadors Programme will last throughout 2021, and the financial education ambassadors will take part alongside CBS staff in financial education activities to be held during the year.
