One of the Island Conservation Society’s young conservationists, Saïd Harryba, took part in a short video for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) StoryWorks Programme in partnership with the Seychelles Tourism Board.

The media programme promotes stories on various themes so as to inspire curious minds across the globe, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Saïd had the opportunity to share his experience of working for the Island Conservation Society (ICS) and his journey in developing a deep interest and appreciation for nature.

Said joined ICS as a conservation ranger in 2016 and was promoted to the post of assistant conservation officer in 2020.

He is currently part of the resident conservation team on Silhouette, an island where he grew up and spent most of his childhood years.

The love and care for the unique biodiversity on the island grew on him.

Saïd uttered the following with a big smile on his face: “Being close to nature has always been my passion. I am fascinated by the various flora and fauna that co-exist in the different habitats. The love that I have for nature had a large influence on my choice to pursue a career in conservation.”

Saïd is also concerned about the current Covid-19 pandemic and is hopeful that things will get better soon so that people can start visiting the protected areas in Seychelles.

He acknowledged the fact that nature does impact our wellbeing because it helps to calm the body, lowers stress hormone levels, provides fresh air and reignites our senses.
