MA in Education programme scheduled to start beginning March 2021 |22 February 2021
The Master’s in Education programme announced by the University of Seychelles with PGCE exit point is scheduled to start at the beginning of March 2021.
Depending on the number of applications received there might be two cohorts.
Since the announcement made by President Wavel Ramkalawan on February 1, 2021 about the need to re-skill and re-look at career choices and create opportunities for young graduates, the University of Seychelles (UniSey) immediately embraced the idea and started to invite newly returning graduates and graduates who have lost their jobs during this Covid-19 period to join its MA in Education programme, with Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) exit point.
Seychelles NATION spoke to UniSey’s marketing executive Petra Lesperance to know more about this new venture. “We get enquiries about our programmes daily, for example, we received 60 enquiries for the MA in Education programme since it was advertised at the beginning of February 2021. At the moment, we are still receiving applications for our programmes and we do not have a fixed number of applicants,” noted Ms Lesperance.
She also noted that there are currently 323 students studying at UniSey and most of their programmes are scheduled to start in September, except for the following programmes:
- MA in Education programme which is scheduled to start at the beginning of March 2021, date to be confirmed. Depending on the number of applications received we might decide to have two cohorts.
- Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration (CEMBA) and Commonwealth Executive Master of Public Administration (CEMPA) programmes have two cohorts – one cohort started in January 2021 and the second cohort is scheduled to start in July 2021.
The course fees are different for each programme.
Why the Master’s in Education programme with PGCE Exit Point at this time? Teaching is one important area of need in Seychelles and one of the UniSey’s main mandates is to train, build knowledge, skills and competencies. UniSey explains that one of the benefits of following this programme is that the graduate will be teaching and studying at the same time, therefore, imparting knowledge and skills to their students as they go along.
The MA in Education looks at current issues in education on a local, regional and international level and it aims to enable all participants to develop a personal response to the challenges in the education field.
The programme has three pathways: Academic, Applied Masters and Applied Masters with Qualified Teacher Status.
