ANB records various drug related cases for January 2021 |09 February 2021

The Anti-Narcotics Bureau (ANB) within the Seychelles Police Force has during the month of January 2021 recorded several cases of drug related offences at its stations which were as a result of various searches and drug seizures effected by its officers.

In majority, these registered cases were mainly of the offence of possession of a controlled drug with a total of 19 cases, out of which 17 were on Mahé and 2 from La Digue.

There were 5 cases of trafficking in a controlled drug recorded on Mahé, among which 1 case of trafficking, cultivation and possession of a controlled drug (53 cannabis plants) was recorded.

Adding up to other drug related cases, ANB recorded a total of 28 cases out of which most will be prosecuted through the AG’s office. These cases came out of 362 searches either on persons, premises, motor vehicles and sea vessels which were conducted on all three main islands.

A total of 539.06g of controlled drugs were seized during the searches and they are 375.44g of herbal cannabis, 113.05g of cannabis resin, 50.57g of heroin and the 53 plants of cannabis plants.

There was a total of 172 pills suspected to be controlled drug seized by ANB airport officers in collaboration with customs officers in the luggage of a passenger at the Seychelles International Airport Arrival Lounge. The pills have been sent overseas for further analysis.
