Covid-19 vaccination programme 28,779 people receive first dose |30 January 2021

As of Thursday January 28, 2021, a total of 28,779 people in Seychelles had received the first dose of the Sinopharm and Covishield vaccines against the coronavirus.

This data was shared by the Ministry of Health yesterday.

Seychelles NATION also learned yesterday that the quota of 25,000 for the first dose of Sinopharm vaccines has been exhausted.

The Seychelles government is aiming to vaccinate 70% of the population and achieve herd immunity by mid-March 2021. A decision which will allow our economy to slowly get back on its feet.

At international level, according to the site ‘Our World in Data’, Seychelles is just behind Israel in the daily Covid-19 vaccine doses administered per 100 people.

On Thursday only, 3,091 people got their first jabs out of which 990 Sinopharm and 2,101 Covishield.

In total, as of January 28, 22,497 doses of Sinopharm have been administered and 6,282 doses of Covishield have been administered.

The figures are as follows for Sinopharm: Red Roof building – 94; Yellow Roof building – 4,484; Green Roof building – 3,891; ICCS – 3,459; Anse Royale – 3,154; Praslin – 280; La Digue – 1,044; Land Marine – 498; SCAA – 622; Hunt Deltel – 292; SPDF – 384; Beau Vallon – 1,533; IOT – 1,250; Grand Anse Mahe – 1,242; Seychelles Breweries – 150 and IDC – 120.

The figures for Covishield are as follows: Red Roof building ‒ 181; Roof building – 358; ICCS – 1,651; Anse Royale – 1,164; Praslin – 822; Beau Vallon – 1,213; Grand Anse Mahe – 842; IDC – 19 and Hemodialysis Unit (SH) – 32.

No Sinopharm vaccine will be administered and people aged 60 years and above will have access to only Covishield. In February the second dose of Sinopharm will be administered to those who have already taken the first dose.

Seychelles is becoming an example worldwide in its response to Covid-19. Let us all keep in mind that we should not let our guards down and keep respecting the health guidelines.
