Covid-19 - Vaccination for senior citizens continues today |28 January 2021
As it has been the case for the past two days, the national immunisation campaign for senior citizens, precisely those aged 60 years old and above, will continue today, with five stations made available by the department of health.
Compared to younger citizens who are being jabbed with the BBIBP-CorV or Sinopharm vaccine, the elderly are being protected by two doses of the AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine AZD1222 or Covishield as it is more commonly known.
The vaccine was first administered on Tuesday and on day one a total of 2062 elderly citizens completed their first dose of the medicine.
At the Yellow Roof Building of the Seychelles Hospital where the vaccination programme was officially launched, a total of 181 jabs were administered, while the International Conference Centre Seychelles (ICCS) recorded 573 citizens who took the vaccine.
The Anse Royale centre administered 355 jabs, while the Beau Vallon centre gave out 424 injections.
A total of 304 elderly citizens received their vaccine at the Grand Anse Mahé centre, while the inner islands stations registered a total of 225 senior citizens who came for their injections.
As for the BBIBP-CorV or Sinopharm vaccine, until Wednesday, a total of 20,650 people have already taken their first dose of vaccine through 15 centres, including special facilities set for working organisations as well as the inner islands.
On Tuesday alone a total of 761 people took their vaccine, with the Green Roof Building of the Seychelles Hospital administering 369 doses.
For today, the five stations which will be administering the Covishield vaccine are the ICCS for Mont Buxton and Perseverance residents, the Beau Vallon District Administration Office for the Bel Ombre residents and the Anse Royale District Administration Office for the Baie Lazare and Takamaka residents.
As it has been the case for the past two days, there will be buses available to and from the vaccination centres.
