Seychelles’ oldest citizen turns 112

Nancy Marie on the day she celebrated her 112th birthday

Seychelles’ most elderly citizen, Nancy Marie, celebrated her 112th birthday yesterday in the presence of her close family.

Due to restrictions as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic she could not celebrate her birthday in the usual fashion where she would go to church and be in the presence of her extended family and friends.

However this did not stop her from getting special visits from the former MNA of English River, Wilbert Herminie and the current MNA Hon. Andy Labonte who both presented her with a hamper.

She also received a special hamper from President Wavel Ramkalawan as well as a cake and flowers from the English River district authority.

Mrs Marie said she is very happy to have reached such a milestone age and to be able to see the younger generations in her family.

She also talked about her ailments especially the pain in her knees, but even that did not stop her from celebrating her birthday

Affectionately known as 'Dada', Mrs Marie was born in 1909 on Praslin. She is the mother of two – 68-year-old Anne who celebrated her birthday a day before and 70-year-old son Guy.

Mrs Marie also has five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
