500 staff to lose jobs if Air Seychelles drops international portfolio |25 January 2021

Five hundred people might lose their jobs if Air Seychelles decides to focus more on domestic and ground handling services as opposed to its international portfolio.

Air Seychelles’ chief executive Remco Althuis said this yesterday in an interview to TeleSesel.

In his first state-of-the-nation address on Friday before the National Assembly, President Wavel Ramkalawan said the national carrier is “a great problem for our country” as it is seeking R109 million in the upcoming budget to finance staff salaries as it struggles to sustain itself.

He also questioned whether it would not be more profitable for the national carrier to focus more on domestic and ground handling services as opposed to its international portfolio.
