Over 18,000 people get first dose of Sinopharm vaccine |25 January 2021

Since the vaccination programme was rolled out on January 10, over 18,000 first doses of the Sinopharm vaccine have been administrated in the country according to the latest data compiled on Saturday January 23.

The vaccination campaign has been well received and accepted in the community. Many, even though in doubt, are going forward to take the jabs.

After receiving a donation of 50,000 doses of COVISHIELD Oxford-Aztrazenotec vaccines last Friday from India, the country will be able to achieve the goal of vaccinating 70% of its population by mid-March.

Still the figures do not reveal how many of those already vaccinated are Seychellois and how many are residents or GOP holders.

The ICCS vaccination centre has recorded the highest number of doses administered up to January 23 with a total of 3231, closely followed by the Anse Royale DA Office with 2979 and Yellow Roof with 2726 vaccines administered.

So far the figures are as follows:

Red roof (opening day) – 94; Green roof – 2465; Inner Islands – 1324; Land Marine – 498; SCAA – 622; Hunt Deltel – 292; IOT – 1250; SPDF – 384; Beau Vallon DA Office – 1340; Grand Anse Mahé DA Office – 998 and SBL – 150.

On Saturday only, 1463 people were vaccinated. More and more people are being encouraged to take the vaccine and so far the programme is going smoothly in the different vaccination centres.

The first 22 days of the vaccination programme has targeted persons working in essential services such as health workers, political leaders, judiciary, police officers, PUC workers, military personnel and employees in the tourism industry, which was placed on the vaccination priority list as the country fully reopens its borders. More and more companies have been added to the list when the essential workers lists were exhausted.
