Covid-19 - 13,163 jabs given by day 11 of the vaccination programme |22 January 2021

Wednesday January 20 was day 11 of the ongoing national immunisation campaign in the efforts to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country and a total of 13,163 individuals had taken their BBIBP-CorV, or Covid SinoPharm vaccine up to that date.

The programme was started by President Wavel Ramkalawan who led by example and became the first leader in Africa to take the vaccine.

Until Wednesday, 13,163 jabs were given in 13 facilities on Mahe, while the inner islands had their own arrangements to provide the vaccination services.

On the main island, the 13 facilities include the Red Roof building (94 jabs), the Yellow Roof building (2,075 jabs), the Green Roof building (1683 jabs), the International Conference Centre of Seychelles – ICCS (2,287 jabs), the Anse Royale district administration office (2,018 jabs), the Land Marine clinic (198 jabs), the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority – SCAA (489 jabs), Hunt Deltel (292 jabs), the Indian Ocean Tuna LTD – IOT (1,250 jabs), the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces – SPDF (290 jabs), the Beau Vallon health centre (461 jabs) and the Grand Anse Mahe facility (110 jabs).

As for the inner island facilities, they added a total of 196 jabs to Wednesday’s grand total.

The programme will continue today with six facilities operating on Mahe, starting at 8am until 5pm.

The ICCS facility will cater for home carers from the central districts, including Persévérance (8am to 10am), English River (10am to 12 noon), Anse Etoile, Mont Fleuri, Bel Air and Mont Buxton (1pm to 5pm).

Between 8am and 5pm, the Yellow Roof building will be offering services to staff members of the Ile Du Port Handling Services (IPHS), H Savy Insurance, Falcons Insurance, Alliance Insurance, Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs, and Pilgrims Security.

As for the Green Roof building it will cater for home carers from the eastern region, including Cascade (8am to 12 noon), Les Mamelles (8am to 12 noon), Roche Caïman, Plaisance and Pointe Larue (1pm to 5pm).

The Anse Royale facility will be offering service to home carers from the southern region, including Baie Lazare, Takamaka (8am to 12 noon), Au Cap, Anse Aux Pins and Anse Royale (1pm to 5pm).

Between 8am and 12 noon, the Grand Anse Mahe facility will be vaccinating home carers from Grand Anse, Anse Boileau and Port Glaud, while the Beau Vallon health centre will be offering service to home carers from the district between 8am and 12noon, while carers from Bel Ombre, St Louis and Glacis can receive their jabs between 1pm and 5pm.

The last group will be accepted into the facilities by 4pm, while all individuals should liaise with their work organisations before reporting to the vaccination centre since all establishments have been notified regarding their respective slots.

Since the official launch on Sunday January 10, the Ministry of Health has rolled out the administering of the vaccine to key groups in the country, starting with health care workers who were followed by other front liners.

During the launch, other than President Ramkalawan, other individuals and leaders in the country including First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, Vice-President Ahmed Afif and his wife Stella Afif, former President Danny Faure, Chief Justice Ronny Govinden, Cabinet ministers, members of the National Assembly, health care leaders and other community leaders also took the vaccine in show of support towards the campaign.
