Pillay R Group, Lions Club bring ray of light to less fortunate for Christmas |26 December 2020

Taking an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community is one of the main purposes of the Lions Club, and it is in this context that the local branch of the organisation has brought the Christmas spirit to six families through donations which will boost their social conditions.
The district officer for hunger within the Lions Club – Seychelles, Rajesh Pandya, along with Falugi Pandya of Pillay R Group on Thursday presented shopping vouchers to six less fortunate Seychellois families, enabling them to shop for basic commodities at any Pillay R Group outlets.
The vouchers are not for alcohol beverages, nor tobacco products.
The ceremony which took place at the headquarters of the poverty alleviation department at Providence was attended by principal secretary Alvin Laurence, chief planning officer in the department Michel Savy, members of Pillay R Group and members of the Lions Club – Seychelles.
Addressing those present, Mr Pandya said the club believes in the true spirit of Christmas which is to bring the greatest happiness and joy to others.
He noted that the decision was taken following the call by President Wavel Ramkalwan in his inauguration address for all businesses and the civil society to come forward and help the vulnerable section of our society.
Mr Pandya added that Pillay R Group is always in the forefront for charity events, and once again gave the Lions Club – Seychelles full support for this particular mission.
The families will receive a monthly voucher worth R2,500 for six months, along with a further donation of sanitary towels
Thanking the sponsors, PS Laurence said the gesture is the perfect example of what other groups and individuals in society should be doing.
He also commended the idea which he said offers people what they need, instead of what they want.
PS Laurence also noted that the blessings of all the good deeds of the donors cannot be measured or counted.
Pillay R Group is the leading business conglomerates in Seychelles, and endeavours to place its signature on all its services with a global recognition for quality and efficiency while nurturing nature and society.
